VISUAL CAMPAIGN: Pedestrian Safety

VISUAL CAMPAIGN
I was tasked with creating signage that highlights areas that are in need of safe, designated paths for students around a university while promoting the creation of sidewalks in these areas. It would both alert drivers of these areas so pedestrians are safer and raise awareness for the need of more sidewalks.

The final result was six main designs. The first design is a small sign that communicates that there are no safe routes for some students to walk to campus. It does this by showing crossed-out arrows and the below phrase “no way.” The second design is a small sign that communicates that due to the lack of safe routes, students are walking on the road, and it is unsafe. It does this by showing a driver veering toward a cowering pedestrian along with the text “wrong way.” The third communicates that if additional safe routes for students are not created then there be negative consequences, like death. It does this by showing a skull and cross bones and the text “dead end.” The fourth design has the same content as the second but has a composition that better fits the context of hanging on stoplight wires. The fifth design incorporates the second design as well. It attracts drivers’ eyes to the side of the road and warns them of pedestrians. It does this by having curvy arrows. These are both visually interesting and unique for the context so divers will notice them. It also has the illustration and text from the second design. This encourages them to look out for pedestrians and drive safely around them. This design will be spray painted on the ground. The sixth and final design also catches the eye of drivers and separates them from pedestrians. This design is a curvy delineator with a reflective strip at the top. Both the fact that it is reflective and curvy will attract the drivers’ attention. The fact that it physically separates pedestrians and drivers will also increase the safety of pedestrians.
